The Peru China Chamber of Commerce (Capechi) explained in a report that Chankai Megaport, whose operations opened in November this year, is receiving investments of up to 250 million dollars in advanced technology with the aim of becoming the first “Smart Port”.
According to the Capechi report, the technology to be implemented at the port will revolutionize logistics operations and port capacity across South America. This will mean the efficiency of the country’s maritime transport.
Likewise, Cosco Shipping Ports Chancay Perú operations manager Carlos Ortiz said that the first phase of the port has allocated $1.3 billion to the project, of which $250 million has been allocated to equipment and technological systems.
There will be 100% automated equipment such as yard cranes and container gantry cranes. In this way, the risks of accidents are eliminated and 24-hour work efficiency is guaranteed.
Ortiz estimated that this remarkable project would allow it to take 8 to 10 hours to unload containers on a ship, compared to the usual 16 hours on average. Logistics costs would be reduced by up to 20%.
